Q What is the primary purpose of this campaign?
A USAID launched the nationwide FWD campaign in collaboration with the Ad Council to enlist the American people as our partner in spreading word about the crisis in the Horn of Africa. At USAID.gov/FWD we make it easy for Americans to learn about the crisis through sharable infographics, facts, maps, and images.
Q What happens to my $10 text donation?
A Your $10 text donation will go to a consortium of 8 U.S.-based humanitarian aid organizations working to provide life-saving aid across the Horn of Africa. All donations will be divided equally amongst the consortium members listed above, and will directly fund relief efforts in the Horn of Africa.
Q What impact does my $10 text donation have?
A Your $10 donation can help to save a life. Here are a few examples of what $10 can do:
- $10 can feed a family of 6 for two days.
- $10 can provide water to a family of 6 for two days.
- $10 can truck one ton of water 18 kilometers.
- $10 can vaccinate 17 children against measles.
- $10 can provide three children with two doses each of Vitamin A
- $10 can buy one mosquito net to help prevent malaria.
- $10 can provide one first aid kit.
- $10 will help build latrines and other sanitation facilities in refugee camps near Dadaab, Kenya.
- $9 can truck in a month's worth of water for a refugee
- $10 can provide 24 people with soap
- $6 can cover the cost of water purification for a family of five members for a period of one month providing them with safe drinking water and preventing further spread of water-borne and infectious diseases.

A If you would like to give more than $10 you can submit multiple text donations or donate online.
Q Does USAID or the Ad Council receive part of my donation?
A No. USAID and the Ad Council do not receive money from your donation. Your donation will go directly to the consortium of 8 non-governmental organizations listed above to fund relief efforts in the Horn of Africa.
